After making a half-court jumper during Thursday night’s game, Dallas Mavericks fan Isaiah Stone was awarded the team’s largest cash prize in the franchise’s history.
Stone earned $100,000 in Bitcoin from cryptocurrency trading platform Voyager Digital as part of the on-court promotional campaign.
Under the ownership of Mark Cuban, the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team was one of the first in the NBA to accept bitcoin payments for tickets and merchandise. The Dallas Mavericks were the first NBA team to accept Bitcoin when they did so in 2019. It was then expanded in 2021 to include Dogecoin, a meme-based token that was introduced at the time.
After Stone’s shot, the Mavericks’ forward-guard Luka Doncic raised his hands and smiled as the crowd roared in cheers. A crazy first half gave way to a back-and-forth affair in the second half, and Doncic scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Mavericks to a victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Dallas on Sunday.
